Everybody needs some rest and relaxation once in a while but we don’t always have the time, or budget, to schedule a trip to the spa. Here are some great ways to turn your home into an oasis by using everyday tools and ingredients.
Brown Sugar Body Scrub
Exfoliating should be the first treatment you give yourself in your at home spa. It’s important to remove all of the dead skin cells that often end up sitting on top of new cells for far too long. This brown sugar body scrub will remove the dead skin and will leave you feeling supple and smooth.
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup raw oatmeal
1 cup olive oil
Mix all the ingredients together and then apply on dry skin, using your hands. You want to perform slow circles—enjoy the process.
Making your own rose-water toner is a great way to save money and control the ingredients you’re applying to your skin. R0se-water has great astringent properties and the scent is said to calm anger and restore peace to a troubled mind.
For every firmly packed cup of rose petals, pour two cups of boiling water over the top
Cover and steep until the liquid is cool
Strain, squeeze out the liquid from the petals and refrigerate the rose water in a clean jar between uses.
Chocolate Face Mask
This exquisite facial mask will leave your face feeling smooth, soft and silky. The honey and cream add moisture and the oatmeal removes dead skin cells. Not to mention the decadent aroma from the cocoa. Enjoy!
1/3 cup cocoa
3 tablespoons heavy cream
2 teaspoons cottage cheese
1/4 cup honey
3 teaspoons oatmeal powder
Mix all ingredients together and smooth onto face. Relax for 10 minutes; then rinse with warm water.
Aromatherapy Steam Treatment
When you’re self-pampering and short on time, an aromatherapy steam treatment can be just what you need to relax and clean out those pores. All you have to do is take a washcloth, wet it, and add 4 or 5 drops of your favourite essential oil. Place the washcloth in a corner of your shower floor and run the water for a couple minutes until the room steams up. This will disperse the blissful scent while opening up your pores.
Light Up the Atmosphere
One of the most simple yet enjoyable parts of any spa treatment is the relaxing atmosphere created by low lighting and scented candles. When doing any of these at home spa treatments make sure you create a relaxing environment for yourself and lighting lots and lots of candles is a great way to do just that.
