Make the Most of Pumpkin Spice

Make the Most of Pumpkin Spice

Courtney Hardwick, Lifestyle Contributor

Summer is nice and all, but now that autumn is here, it’s all about cozy sweaters, new suede boots and cool evenings. You’ve probably also noticed a huge increase in #pumpkinspice hashtags and coffee cup photos on Instagram, and that’s because Starbucks brought back their iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte on September 6th this year. If you’re into all things fall, you probably know Starbucks isn’t the only place you can get your pumpkin spice fix. But there’s only a short window of time to enjoy the pumpkin spice season, so get out there and make the most of it with a few of these products:

Hot beverages

Starbucks isn’t the only place you can get a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Tim Hortons, Second Cup and McDonalds all have their own versions, so you’ll never find yourself stranded without anywhere to get your fix. Canadian company, DAVIDsTEA also offers a spiced pumpkin tea, a pumpkin chai tea and a pumpkin pie matcha tea for the non-coffee drinkers out there. There’s plenty of time left to try them all and find your favourite, so enjoy your pumpkin spice beverages while you still can.

Pumpkin pie has been a Thanksgiving staple for years, and there are plenty of other recipes to try if you can’t get enough of the flavour. Try a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese icing, or pumpkin spice muffins. Tim Hortons even has pumpkin spice donuts and Timbits if baking from scratch isn’t your thing. The pumpkin spice trend doesn’t stop there either: there are also plenty of brands that released limited edition pumpkin spice chip and popcorn flavours. Oreo has a pumpkin spice version of their popular cookie, Oikos and Chobani both tried out a yogurt flavour and Dreyer’s released a pumpkin spice ice cream. Of course, many of the more out-there pumpkin spice snacks aren’t available in Canada, but if you’re south of the border for American thanksgiving, you’ll be able to find pumpkin spice anything and everything.

Pumpkin spice is more than just a flavour — it’s now also a colour. Or more accurately, the perfect shimmery shade to use for strobing and highlighting. Available on an Etsy shop known for its mineral makeup, FeatherRiverBody, the Pumpkin Spice Latte shade is described as “light orange with gold sparkle” and recommended for use as a highlighter or eyeshadow. It’s the perfect shade for a unique Thanksgiving, or even Halloween, look.

Shampoo & Soap

The smell of pumpkin pie is kind of nostalgic and comforting. So, it’s no surprise that scent has been incorporated into shampoos, soaps and creams. Bath & Body Works has a ton of different fall-inspired options that include a Salted Caramel Pumpkin 2-in-1 Body Wash & Bubble Bath, a Coconut Pumpkin Latte Gentle Foaming Hand Soap and a Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte Ultra Shea Body Cream.

You can also try out a Pumpkin Scrub from No Bull, a Pumpkin Chai liquid soap from Nest Fragrances, a Pumpkin Seed Deep Conditioner from Sevi, and philosophy’s Homemade Pumpkin Pie Shower Gel. There’s really no shortage of options when it comes to pumpkin-inspired beauty products — you can even get a pumpkin pie perfume oil.

Candles & Potpourri

You don’t have to bake a pumpkin pie from scratch to have your home smelling like you’re favourite fall dessert. Now is the perfect time to stock up on pumpkin spice-scented candles that will fill your house with the smells of baking. Bath & Body Works has plenty of options for candles as well, including a Pumpkin Pecan Waffles candle. Don’t forget the pumpkin-scented hand sanitizers either.

With all these pumpkin spice options, by the time winter gets here, you’ll be ready to put pumpkin to rest until next fall rolls around.
